It’s with great joy that I announce that we will be returning to the The Roger Smith Hotel for REBarCamp 2013! For those of you who remember 2011’s event, you know it was a great time. For those of you unfamiliar with The Roger Smith, here is some background:
The history of the Roger Smith is an interesting one. The Roger Smith Hotel is a family-run boutique hotel in Midtown Manhattan, New York. It was established in 1929 and is located just a few short blocks from many of New York’s most famous landmarks such as The Chrysler Building, The Empire State Building, Grand Central Station, The Museum of Modern Art and Times Square, to name a few.
The hotel’s original brick facade has, over the past 20 years, slowly begun to function as a “canvas-in-progress” for the president/CEO and artist-in-residence, James Knowles. Some of his most notable pieces are the twelve foot tall bronze statues that greet guests and visitors at the hotel’s main entrance, the abstract stainless steel frieze that wraps around the second floor exterior and the large,
vibrant canvas paintings that adorn the walls of the hotel’s onsite bar and restaurant, Lily’s, best known for it’s farm fresh American cuisine.
Today, it is the premier venue for all things social media related. Recently, they are home to notable events such as Gary Vaynerchuk’s Cork’d wine meetups, Klout New York City screenings, various Mashable events, The Gravity Summit, The Social Consumer, and countless others.
The management and staff of The Roger Smith have been very generous and offered to host our event for us, so please make sure to go to their site and tell all of your friends about this fantastic New York institution. Donating the venue is not the only thing that The Roger Smith is doing for the RE BarCamp cause. They are also offering all REBCNY attendees a preferred rate on the rooms at the hotel. More to come on that later but suffice to say the money you save by staying at The Roger Smith will more than justify coming in a day early for REBCNY.
Here is a little video to give you a look into what happens at this great establishment just in case you need a little more convincing.
We plan on announcing special hotel deals in the next day or so for those of you who want to stay here. It’s a great hotel and you can’t beat the convenience for BarCamp attendees. What’s more is that you can’t beat the convenience in proximity to the Inman Conference. Five short blocks! And a heck of a lot less expensive. Clearly, this is an event you will not want to miss. The Lucky Strikers have an ENTIRE day of events planned for January 15th so check back frequently for updates. Also, you can check the LSMMC or REBCNY facebook pages as we will put them up there as well. Registration is open and the first 50 tickets are already gone! We are limiting this event to 150 people so register early to guarantee your spot!
